The government is conducting a National Rail Review to consider overall rail policy. As part of this "all-island" strategy the public are being asked to give their views. If possible between now and Friday 21st when submissions close we ask our supporters for greenway from Athenry to Collooney to fill in the pro-forma feedback form on the National Rail Policy public consultation. It is a simple form to fill in the key part is question six when you are asked for general views. We ask you put this statement in, simply copy paste from below this line into question 6 on the pro-foma

Whilst a railway from Athenry to Claremorris county Mayo and from Claremorris north to Collooney in county Sligo might be a desirable achievement, this is highly unlikely to be achieved within the next 50 years. The national rail review fully accepts this fact. However the state owns a very important asset in the closed railway alignment from Athenry - Collooney which must be protected in state ownership. I therefore ask that the National Rail Review includes a definitive statement which says that the closed railway from Athenry to Claremorris and north of Claremorris to Collooney will not be re-opened within a period of 30 years from 2022. However in the interests of future generations this National Rail Review recommends that the closed railway route be identified as a transport corridor which must remain in state ownership and recommends that the best way to protect the route in state ownership as a transport corridor is to utilize the route using international best practice and to license the route for use as a greenway until such time as railway is possible. I am asking for this clarity to be made in the national rail review to ensure the route is protected for future potential rail use.
