Western Rail Trail
Mar 2, 2017
We have started another petition in relation to the Western Rail Trail. In Kiltimagh county Mayo work has begun on a scheme to create a velorail schem on about 12km of the closed railway, a velorail is essentially a cycling cart that sits on the old track, it will be a tourist attraction but will cost money to use, we are now petitioning Mayo county council to ensure a walking and cycling track is placed alongside the closed railway for the 12km of track the velorail will use to keep this part of the Western Rail Trail Greenway freely accessible. Mayo county council received 284 submissions on the county plan three years ago asking for a greenway on this route, the council ignored all of these submissions (amounted to 84% of all submisssions) on the county plan and opted for the velorail pay as you use socially exclusive leisure facility. We now need to push for a parallel greenway. So if all of our Western Rail Trail petitioners could put our collective weight behind this additional petition we might make waves. Just go to this additional link on change.org https://www.change.org/p/peter-hynes-mayo-county-manager-put-a-walking-and-cycling-path-for-everyone-to-enjoy-parallel-with-kiltimagh-velorail Many thanks for helping with this one as well and lets keep the pressure up to get more people signing both petitions!
