Ivan Shires started this petition to Western Carolina University and

Western Carolina University Student Government Association has held a closed door meeting to Impeach current President David Rhode. Based on feedback submitted to students on the SGA Facebook Page, it has come to my attention as a fellow student that my peers have expressed concern about the validity, fairness and execution of the impeachment process conducted by WCU SGA. In my comment addressed to WCU SGA directly on their post, I received no reply when I asked whether a Student Vote was permissible.

I understand many students have lived through traumas, both past and present. Sexual violence is at an uncomfortably high level, and from our best understanding standing President David Rhode has been accused of conducting acts of Sexual Harassment while enlisted as the President of WCU SGA. As a member of the student body, a petition to allow the student body to vote is what should have been done in the first place. Based on the reaction of the student body, there was repeated concern over the conduct during the SGA meeting.  If President Rhode should be impeached, it should be up to the student body to make an educated decision. Not SGA.
