Finish implementing the A24 cycle lane in Worthing

The Issue

Worthing is an ideal town for cyclists - compact, flat and regular - but cyclists have long been treated as second class citizens. The A24/Broadwater Road cycle lane is a step in the right direction towards encouraging cyclists to use major routes around town in a safe manner, particularly the young and elderly who find cycling on unprotected routes dangerous and intimidating.

Opponents of the cycle route may not realise that every cyclist may be a driver who has been inspired not to use their car: so implementing the cycle lane means reducing congestion, not increasing it.

Elsewhere around Britain and Europe, similar cycle provision has been implemented safely and to the benefit of all road users. There is no reason that Worthing should be any different, despite anecdotal claims to the contrary.

We therefore request the Councils finish implementing the proposed cycle route and ignore the opposition.
