Darren Cumberbatch died while in police custody in 2017.  As of yet no one has been held accountable surrounding the death of Darren. The cause of death was given as 'multi-organ failure', but in a narrative conclusion the jury said that 'considerable restraint' by police - including baton strikes, other physical strikes, multiple punches, stamps, tasers and handcuffs.

In the past 10 years, 163 people have died in police custody in England and Wales according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). 

Black Conscious Coventry is calling for: 
 

1. The officers involved in Darren Cumberbatch's unlawful killing should face prosecution.
2. The abolition of Independent Office for Police Conduct.
3.  A ban on Police tasers.
4. Independent inquiry into police misuse; of firearms, leg and ankle restraints, spit guard, baton, incapacitate.
