Bring Lothian buses to West Lothian

West Lothian areas such as Broxburn and Uphall are serviced by the private company First Bus. These buses are often infrequent to the city centre, rarely arrive on time and some services displayed on the timetable never show up. The last bus during the week is 23.20 from the city centre and 2am for Friday and Saturdays. This means that West Lothian residents who work nights would have to drive in to town.

Edinburgh City Council has announced that they aim for Edinburgh to be car free by 2020. For commuters in West Lothian this could affect how they get to work. Additionally, with the rising rent prices, areas such as West Lothian are becoming more popular. Adequate city links could support a rise in house value and local business.

A possible solution is to bring Lothian buses to West Lothian

Lothian buses are a private company that service Edinburgh City’s centre and parts of East Lothian. They provide an outstanding service where bus times are met, buses are regular and they offer monthly ridacards. Their fares are cheaper than First Bus. As these are private companies the council cannot get involved. After direct conversations with Lothian Buses they responsed with...

“I do appreciate your wish for Lothian to serve West Lothian, however as there is already an established operator; it would be very difficult for us to introduce a new service and attract enough passengers in order for any direct route to cover its own operating costs, and at the present time we do not believe that there is enough demand to support multiple operators”

This shows that if we the people of West Lothian show that we want Lothian buses to serve our community, all we have to do is express our interest!

Fun fact: 91% of Lothian buses is owned by Edinburgh City council. A portion of the remainder is owned by West Lothian...but we don’t get any services?

Sign the petition and we can start improving our connection to the city!
