Keep Prof. Beagle at WLU
The Issue
We are writing this letter to please ask you to reconsider the termination of WLU Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Journalism, Communication Studies & Virtual Art and Faculty Adviser to the Trumpet, Tammie Beagle.
Prof. Beagle is not only an alumna of WLU, but a huge advocate for all Hilltoppers. She sparks young writers and communication specialists’ minds and works with students in and out of the classroom to help them develop crucial communication skills that help them eventually advance into the workforce.
We know this because we are proud alums and/or current students of Prof. Beagle. We sat in her classroom, learned from her, and adapted it into our own lives. We would not be who we are today without Tammie Beagle.
Not only that, but The Trumpet is THE oldest organization at West Liberty University and Professor Beagle saved it from extinction when she joined the WLU staff. It is not only a newspaper but a historic collection of records for West Liberty University and the community. It provides students a chance to learn organizational, interpersonal, writing, editing, and other valuable skills that can transcend across multiple career paths. Not only that, but the Trumpet was aimed to celebrate its centennial edition during the 2020-2021 academic year, something prep work has already begun on in order to honor this. Going on without Tammie, and possibly, therefore, the Trumpet, is a huge disservice to the WLU community, current students, and alumni.
She is an invaluable asset to the College of Arts and Communications, thanks to her decades of experience in the Communications field, and the courses she offers -- including ones that are required by the degree program to graduate. She has real-world experiences and stories that bring a new life to classroom discussions.
We are asking you to please reconsider this termination. Tammie Beagle is a vital asset to West Liberty University, and without her, a huge hole will be left in Hilltopper records. We are proud Hilltoppers, and we are proud to be students of Professor Tammie Beagle.
