Most local people are aware that there is ward space at Loughborough Hospital that sits unused.  In 2013/2014 the number of beds at the hospital was cut significantly.

The hospital is a valued local asset.   People want to be treated near to home.  It makes no sense to have wards sat empty when the hospitals in Leicestershire are under such pressure: as shown by the significant bed-shortages last winter.

The people of Loughborough and the surrounding area would much rather use a local facility than travel to Leicester for their care.  

They feel that Loughborough hospital ought to be used to its full capacity.  They therefore call for empty ward space to be reopened, and for more consultations to be held at Loughborough Hospital.   They also call on the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) who allocate funds in our area, to provide resources to the Urgent Care Centre, so that it can cope with peak demand and take pressure of the Accident and Emergency at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
