Petition to Ban Unlicensed Conversion Therapy in West Lafayette, IN

The Issue

We, citizens of West Lafayette, stand in support of City Council ordinance 31-21.  This ordinance proposes a ban on conversion therapy by means of unlicensed individuals, including, but not limited to, unlicensed religious leaders. The ban would be in accordance with advice from the American Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and other renowned medical organizations which stand against performing such practices on minors. We, as well as the sponsors of this ordinance, are in the interest of protecting and uplifting all LGBTQ+ individuals in the city of West Lafayette, especially minors, who are particularly at risk. While we agree that parental rights are essential, we do not support giving unlicensed individuals the ability to practice an antiquated and harmful process in our community.

We ask you to join us in

  • Reading the ordinance and understanding the positive effect it would have on youth in our community
  • Signing this petition to show your support to the West Lafayette City Council and mayor, John Dennis
  • Writing to your City Council representatives asking for their yea vote on ordinance 31-21 on February 7th.
