West Hollywood's Indoor Smoking Ban Is Unjust

West Hollywood's Indoor Smoking Ban Is Unjust
The Issue
If adopted, the proposed West Hollywood anti-smoking ordinance would adversely affect the ability of West Hollywood residents to consume cannabis (including smokeless vaporizers) and completely misses the point that cannabis is an important medicine for many.
Smoking is defined in the ordinance to include cannabis and use of vaporizers despite the fact there is zero evidence showing that second-hand cannabis smoke or vaporizers are hazardous to human health like tobacco smoke.
The council's analysis says studies have linked second-hand (tobacco) smoking to cardiovascular disease, lung cancer, SIDS, et al. However, none of these hazards apply to marijuana smoke, either first-hand or (much less) second-hand. The same is even truer about vaping cannabis (and nicotine). Not a single study has ever demonstrated any human harm due to second-hand cannabis smoke.
Unlike tobacco smokers, cannabis users can't legally go to the streets to use their medicine. The city council should not be marginalizing and criminalizing cannabis users and this ordinance would not apply to wealthy homeowners.
