The Issue

TO THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE WEST COVINA CITY COUNCIL,

We, the undersigned citizens and electors of the City Council of West Covina, California, urge members of the City Council to take immediate corrective action to improve the fiscal health of our city.

Residents and business operators have suffered significant financial debt and loss of services, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars due unnecessary litigation, poor decision making and reckless spending by Council Member Tony Wu that includes:

·       pursuit of a COVID-era municipal Health Department poses a threat of bankruptcy to the city,

·       advocacy for dangerous development at California's largest toxic hazardous waste landfill (BKK) which            raises serious concerns about safety and health,

·       the misuse and misallocation of COVID federal funds slated for local businesses,

·       rash implementation of city street sweeping program without proper research and failure to account                for impacts to residents.

West Covina cannot afford to waste money on missteps and miscalculations by members of the Council and city staff.  The West Covina City Council must restore trust to the citizens and taxpayers of West Covina.

We urge the Mayor and members of the West Covina Council to publicly explain the steps they will take to improve the fiscal health of the city.

We urge a moratorium on all unnecessary expenditures, such as wasteful spending on festivals and events that have damaged the Sportsplex fields.

We demand the West Covina Council exercise prudence and common sense in how our tax revenues and property taxes are spent.
