Dear All,

As you must be already aware of the fact, the super cyclone Amphan has ripped through West Bengal and left a trail of destruction in its aftermath. This is one of the worst cyclones that the state has experienced in quite sometime now. Needless to say that everyone in the state has been affected.

But its the poor who have borne the brunt of it. Sundarbans has been almost decimated. There is nothing left of certain villages that existed and the evaluation of the total loss is unspeakable. Lives lost, houses uprooted and livelihoods snatched away at the blink of an eye.

Unfortunately it didn't receive much media coverage due to whatsoever reasons. The physical destruction apart it is the lack of very basic human needs like potable water which is unavailable in some parts as they have been cut-off from the rest of the civilization. Hunger is driving people berserk and the fear of Covid-19 is just lurking there as the poor scavenge for food. This might lead to all sorts of grievous problems like famine, drought, epidemic explosion etc.

I as a concerned and responsible citizen of India would request both the Central Government and the State Government to work hand in hand and collaborate like never before. Humanity needs it urgently and together we will rehabilitate and rescue the people in need. We all have demonstrated our unity in the past and will again show the world what being an Indian means. This petition needs to reach out to as many as possible so that we can create the awareness and help the needy in as many ways as we can.

Regards,

Sanjana Banerjea.
