The Senate Finance Committee has the largest jurisdiction of any congressional committee overseeing over 50 percent of the nation's budget, including America's entitlement programs, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, all tax policy, international trade, several welfare programs and the nation's debt.

There are 27 Senators that are members of the Senate Finance Committee, 11 members are not cosponsors of S-597, they are indicated above with a * in front of their names.

The Senate Finance Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy is one of the six subcommittees within the Senate Committee on Finance, within the government of the United States.

Subcommittees report their findings to the full committee.

Finally there is a vote by the full committee - the bill is "ordered to be reported."

S-597 is held up in one of the two committees and has not been voted on by the Senate Finance Committee.

The majority leader Chuck Schumer can placed S-597 on the legislation calendar for a vote.

Senate: Legislation is placed on the Legislative Calendar. There is also an Executive calendar to deal with treaties and nominations. Scheduling of legislation is the job of the Majority Leader. Bills can be brought to the floor whenever a majority of the Senate chooses.
