SEAN LAGRANDMD, United States
1 May 2023

Update for May 1st, there are 39 cosponsors of S.597 and 250 cosponsors of H.R. 82, Social Security Fairness Act.

I would like to thank the Representative from Virginia, Jennifer McClellan who is the 250th cosponsor of H.R. 82.

Senator Tim Kaine from Virginia became the 39th cosponsor of S. 597, and once again, I would like to thank both members of Congress for cosponsoring, The Social Security Fairness Act legislation.

On 5/1/23, Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland announced he would not seek a fourth term in Office, at age 79. Senator Ben Cardin is not a cosponsor of S.597 and didn't cosponsor the legislation last year.

Senator Van Hollen from Maryland who is 64 was a cosponsor of The Social Security Fairness Act, last year, and we will continue to request that he cosponsor S.597 this year.

Senator Mark Warner from Virginia, who is 68 has never cosponsored S.597 in his term in Office.

Representative Steny Hoyer of Maryland’s 5th District who is 83 years old, has never cosponsored H.R. 82 in his term in Office either, but we will continue to request that they all cosponsor these two pieces of legislation to repeal WEP and GPO.

The ages of Members in the 118th Congress, how that impacts their decisions on supporting Social Security Fairness Act is unknown since the majority of them are well off financially and over half are millionaires but if they represent the citizens of their District, the Members who are 62 or older who are able to draw SSA benefits who are not cosponsors should be encouraged on behalf of senior citizens they represent.

I am requesting Representatives in two States, Maryland and Virginia that are not cosponsors to cosponsor and support H.R. 82.

Please thank the Representatives from the State of Maryland for cosponsoring H.R.82
