Oct 11, 2022

There will only be 16 voting days left when the House comes back in session on November 14th until December 15th, 2022 and there are 16 days when the House members are scheduled to vote. House members can only sign a discharge petition on the House floor when in session and vote on the Discharge Petition after obtaining 218 signatures and only vote during one of the scheduled voting days.

The Discharge procedure was used five times in the 86th Congress in attempts to bring legislation to the House floor for debate. In one case, that of the pay raise for federal employees, the petition was successful and in a second instance, the civil rights bill, the pressure brought by the drive for signatures on the petition was a major factor in freeing the bill from the Rules Committee.

We must continue to encourage House Representatives to sign the Discharge Petition when they come back in session on November 14th and continue to advocate for H.R. 82 and S.1302 for Social Security Fairness Act. Please participate in the National WEP & GPO Repeal Movement.
