Let us thank Senator Tim Kaine and Senator Raphael Warnock for becoming our 41st and 42nd cosponsors of S.1302. on 9/6/22 and 9/7/22.
Please ask Senator Mark Warner of Virginia and Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland to become our 43rd and 44th cosponsors.
I am reposting and old post with some revisions.
We have past one hurdle to repeal Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset. We have 296 cosponsors for H.R. 82 Social Security Fairness Act thus forcing a vote on the House floor. "The rules mandate a floor vote on any bill that receives 290 cosponsors.
This will be the first time in history that a floor vote has been taken on any bill to repeal or modify WEP/GPO. The vote will likely be in September", stated by Representative Mike Johnson.
Our 2nd hurdle is when the House vote on H.R. 82 in September. Currently, H.R. 82 is on the Consensus Calendar waiting for the 25-day rule or The House Leader, Nancy Pelosi or Majority Leader, Steny Hoyer to move H.R. to the House floor.
This rule can only be used between March 1 and Sept. 30. Once the 290 cosponsor threshold is reached, the bill's author may file a motion to put it on the Consensus Calendar. Then, the bill must maintain the 290 cosponsors for 25 LEGISLATIVE DAYS before it can be scheduled.
The procedure is outlined here: https://www.congressionalinstitute.org/117th-congress-house-floor-procedures-manual/xvii-consensus-calendar/
Pam Alexandroff does an excellent job explaining the Consensus Calendar rule further.

If the bill passes by simple majority (218 of 435), the bill moves to the Senate. In the Senate, the bill is assigned to another committee and, if released, debated and voted on.
Our 3rd hurdle is to get the companion bill to H.R. 82, that is in the Senate now, S.1302 to 60 cosponsors to ensure it is voted on. We currently have 41 cosponsors.
The 4th hurdle is to get 60 votes in the Senate.
What is the 60 vote rule?
The Senate adopted a rule to allow a two-thirds majority to end a filibuster, a procedure known as "cloture." In 1975 the Senate reduced the number of votes required for cloture from two-thirds of senators voting to three-fifths of all senators duly chosen and sworn, or 60 of the 100-member Senate.
Our last hurdle and finale hurdle is # 5, that is when S.1302 is past in the Senate and sent to The President for his signature. We can get this done with you all support, thank you.
We must continue to thank our current cosponsors of H.R.82 and continue to encourage the non cosponsors to support H.R.82 to ensure we obtain the 218 votes needed in the House.
The campaign to get 19 more Senators to cosponsor S.1302 have begun. This Year is also the 2022 Midterms.
There are 33 Senators seats up for reelection and all the House 435 seats are up for reelection. The Senate have 3 classes, Class III term ends 2023, Class I term ends 2025 and Class II term ends 2027.

There are 6 Class III Senators that are not running for reelection and all are not cosponsors of S. 1302 except Senator Patrick Leahy from Vermont which is a cosponsor.

My campaign is to ask the Class III Senators that are not cosponsors of S 1302, who are up for reelection to become cosponsors most importantly because the 2022 Primaries is less than 60 days away and continue asking the other Senators in the other 2 classes that aren't cosponsors to cosponsor S.1302.
