The only ice rink in Wales remains closed. The Welsh government was due to allowing it to be open from the 21st of June but they have halted any further lifts on restrictions today. The ice rink closed back in March 2020 under the leisure umbrella. All other leisure facilities in Wales have been allowed to open yet the rink remains closed.

There is no evidence the rink is any more of a risk than a pub, cinema or a bowling alley. The ice rink is not a leisure facility it is a sports facility where many people, adults and children train in a sport they love. All other sports in Wales have restarted including close contact sports. There are numerous ice hockey teams, disabled hockey teams, synchronised skating teams and many many figure skaters. These include a number of talented figure skaters from the Great Britain squad, not to mention the coaches who have lost all income and their livelihoods.

Skaters are having to travel to England just to do the sport they love, at great costs and only able to do this once a week. While English, Scottish, and Irish hockey teams and skaters are training many times per week leaving Welsh athletes at a huge disadvantage. Sadly, many hockey players and skaters have given up due to the rink being closed for so long, don’t let there be any more.
