Swansea Sound making headlines

As signatures to the #saveswanseasound petition continue to increase, so does the coverage.

Big thanks to Jon Coles at the Llanelli Herald for his report into the closure of Swansea Sound.  Jon is the son of the late Swansea Sound presenter Lloyd Coles.  Lloyd joined the station soon after it opened and presented Folk and Country music programmes.  He was one of the UK’s foremost country music broadcasters and the winner of the International Country Music Broadcaster of the Year Award.  Check out the link to Jon's article.

We can't be complacent and assume that Swansea and the surrounding areas will not be affected by the changes being made by Swansea Sound's new owners Bauer Media.

Swansea Sound has been on air for almost 50 years. It's one of the last remaining local commercial radio stations in the UK still broadcasting under its original name and the first in Wales.

A new networked national music service from England will replace everything you love about Swansea Sound - The name, the presenters, The Sunday Hotline, The Sports Phone In, Songs for Sunday, Heart and Soul and you'll rarely hear a Male Voice Choir played and very few references to anything that's going on in South West Wales. (Can you imagine an english sounding presenter pronouncing Llanelli or Ystradgynlais correctly?)

Let's fight to keep your Swansea Sound local with staff who live, breathe and know the area like you do, because once it's gone, it'll be gone forever.

It's vitally important we keep sharing the link to the petition on social media.
