The traditional county town of Monmouth in Monmouthshire in South Wales previously had two railway stations, these were both Monmouth Mayhill and Monmouth Troy. Both railway stations were closed to passenger traffic on 5th January 1959, and completely to goods traffic (freight) in January 1964. The population of the town of Monmouth is around 10,508, and personally, I think a town of this size really cannot afford to not have a rail link. I do strongly believe that if the railway were to ever be reopened to the town of Monmouth then a regular daily public passenger service could run to and from the town to Cardiff Central railway station. I think that the Welsh Government should look into the possibility of reopening this railway line in the future, and also that both Monmouth Town Council and Monmouthshire County Council should back/support the future reopening plans of this railway line as well.
