Thank you so much to everyone who has signed the petition. We are now heading steadily towards 3000 signatures, which is amazing! There have been some exciting developments with the campaign in recent months that I thought I should share with you all. The campaign is now being supported by the charity 'Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales' (FTWW), who are helping to lobby Welsh Government so that we can achieve the changes that are needed to miscarriage care in Wales. The charity Tommy’s also continue to support us and the campaign was featured on BBC Wales News and BBC Radio Wales earlier this summer.
A date has now been set for a meeting with with members of the Health Secretary’s team to discuss miscarriage care in Wales. Myself, Jane Brewin (CEO Tommy's) and Debbie Shaffer (CEO FTWW) will be meeting with three members of Vaughan Gething’s team this coming Wednesday (26th September). In preparation for this meeting I have written a report, in partnership with FTWW, stating the case for better miscarriage care in Wales. This report has taken in to account all of the feedback that people have left on the petition. I am very grateful to everyone who has been willing to share their stories to help make the case for change - thank you! The report has also collected evidence from members of the group FTWW who have kindly shared their experiences of care in Wales. The report makes eleven recommendations that we believe will help to improve the care experienced in Wales and has been sent to the Health Secretary and his team.
If you would like to read the report you can do so by following this link http://www.ftww.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/09/Miscarriage-report-FINAL.pdf I have written to my AM asking if he would write to the Health Secretary, Vaughan Gething, endorsing the report and the recommendations made in it. He has agreed to do this and it would be a wonderful support for the campaign if you would consider doing the same with your local AM.
We have also had some wonderful support for the campaign from Leanne Wood, leader of Plaid Cymru. Leanne has questioned the Health Secretary in the Senedd about miscarriage care in Wales. If you would like to view this question you can do so on the following link https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vN2OM1lvLnk Leanne has also written a letter stating her support for the campaign and report and urging the Health Secretary to work with us to improve care in Wales. We were delighted that in his response, Vaughan Gething recognised that there are currently issues with miscarriage care in Wales and seemed willing to discuss how care can be improved.
We are hopeful of making good progress in our meeting on Wednesday, it would be fantastic if you could all keep sharing the petition on social media in the mean time so that we can go into the meeting with the backing of as many signatures as possible.
Thank you so much again to everyone who has already signed the petition and been willing to share their experiences of care in Wales,
Jessica
