Welcome Ordinance in Elk Grove Village, IL
The Issue
Elk Grove Village, IL needs to adopt a Welcome Ordinance. We are a diverse community and we are considered the Exceptional Community. Then all should be welcome.
The Mayor of Elk Grove Village came out and said he would not put into affect a Welcome Ordinance. So we need to stand up against this type of thinking in our Communities.
Every resident should know their village works for them, not as an arm of civil ICE operations. That’s how you build trust, solve crimes, and keep families engaged with schools, clinics, and local government.
WELCOME ORDINANCE SHOULD INCLUDE:
Illinois law already points the way: the TRUST Act (2017) and Way Forward Act (2021) limit local involvement in civil immigration enforcement and require VOICES Act certifications for crime victims. Local ordinances make these protections visible and workable at the village level.
Ordinance should include
- No collection or sharing of immigration status
2. Clear definitions + legal warrants standard
Bar 287(g) agreements; bar transfers to ICE for civil purposes; bar setting up traffic perimeters or on-site support for civil ICE ops.
3. Public facility policies + access
4. Victim & witness cooperation / VOICES Act compliance
5. Language access & call-routing
6 .Data-access controls
7 .Reporting & transparency
8 Training and internal discipline
