Since the coronavirus pandemic, there have been fewer maritime vessels in the Hudson River connecting New Jersey to New York and beyond. Because of this, maritime patterns have changed as well as the currents, causing more fish to fall into a new current pattern. This also changes the direction of millions of plastic and of microplastics, spewing more into the direction of the fish. All of the waste in the Hudson is coming ashore, as well as the dead or dying fish. The fish die slowly and painfully (Oxford University proves in a study that fish, in fact feel pain), and they become washed ashore by the polluted rocks. This causes a stench as well as thousands of decomposing fish to die. By signing this petition, you advocate to our government for a complete cleanup as well as further prevention steps. This would include less waste and better recycling as well as waste management programs, to compost bins to prevent food waste (allowing for more recyclables to be processed).
