Transition Webster University to Pass/Fail for the SP2 semester

Transition Webster University to Pass/Fail for the SP2 semester
The Issue
Due to these trying times we, the students of Webster University, feel that our grading scale for the remainder of the 2020 spring semester should be moved to a Pass/Fail system. It is our feeling that this change will benefit not only students, but faculty and the university as a whole.
The implementation of this system will relieve stress on students and professors forced into an online environment due to the on going COVID19 outbreak. This process will allow the WU community to continue our education while also being able focus on keeping ourselves and our families healthy and safe.
Furthermore this Pass/Fail system will help professors through out the university find solutions to issues posed in areas such as dance, theatre, music, film, etc.. where collaboration and in person instruction is essential to the outcome of the class. We feel that the students and faculty should not be unintentionally penalized in these situations by factors beyond their control.
Additionally, we would like to note that this Pass/Fail system would not be one that compromises the academic rigor of our work but rather one that helps to ease the workload and tension of students and professors put in this difficult academic situation. This system has already been implemented into some of the country's leading schools such as MIT & Georgetown University and is quickly spreading through out the country as administrations react to COVID19.
In conclusion, we the Webster University community ask that the administration of WU immediately move towards a Pass/Fail grading system in an effort to combat the long term effects of COVID19 on students academic carriers. It is our belief that this change will help to further the Webster University community as a whole and will help to ensure the future of Webster for generations to come.
