We Will Not Tolerate Faculty That Grooms Our Students.
The Issue
Dear CCPA Faculty and Staff,
Many of you my know about @sashassastory on Instagram.
This petition is about Emily and her sexual abuse story with a CCPA faculty member. This faculty member groomed her over the course of two years while she was a student at CCPA. Grooming can happen to anyone, at any age and for any reason. When grooming is involved, the sexual relationship IS NOT consensual.
Here is a summary of her story along with the 7 stages of grooming in sexual abuse:
1- identify a victim:
Groomers don't choose anybody, their choice is calculated. Usually someone who is young, naive, and vulnerable. Of no fault of her own, Emily was not experience or educated about sex, her mother was dying of cancer and she was struggling with other personal issues at the time this faculty member chose her.
2- Gaining trust
This faculty member took interest in Emily, listened to her problems, offered her extra help outside of class with many frequent visits to his office.
3- Becoming important to the victim
He took the role of Emily's therapist and friend, listening and URGING her to share detailed information about her life. He used this to become her main support system. He gave her special educational support, religious guidance, emotional support etc. He even gained access to her personal phone number to call and text her OUTSIDE of school hours on a regular basis.
4- Isolation
This faculty member took Emily to church with his family. One time he refused to allow her to go home by herself claiming "it was too dangerous", thus would drive her personally. When they would have conversations at school he would close and lock his office door, he would summon and urge her to stay after class with him. He would talk badly about other students that Emily would try and form friendships with.
5- Creating secrecy
The professor would delete messages from her phone , and use ager and fear to make sure she did not share the details of their relationship with others.
6- Sexualizing the Relationship
The professor started off small, asking Emily about her experience with alcohol, boys, relationships and sex. He would normalize this discussion under the premise that he was only trying to "mentor and protect her". He was her sole educator about sex, giving her "the talk" for the first time in her life, sending her pornographic material etc. He began to touch her in subtle ways, normalizing and desensitizing her to regular physical contact. He preyed upon her normal curiosity about sex. He used her naivety, trust and powerlessness to sexually abuse her repeatedly.
7- controlling the relationship
He used threats, and his power and manipulation to keep Emily in this abusive relationship.
Ask yourself:
What kind of a person uses their power to groom and sexually abuse another person?
Now ask yourself, is that the kind of person you want to be teaching at CCPA?
If your answer to the last question is no. Then sign this petition.
Having this faculty member around CCPA is not only triggering for Emily, but triggering for all other students and faculty that have been groomed and abused in their lifetime. Having this faculty member at school is a DANGER to everyone in CCPA.
Everyday he continues to be employed at this school is a day that...
-Emily suffers and is not getting justice
-Other student's mental health suffers
-Roosevelt is compromising its social justice values.
-CCPA LACKS INTEGRITY
-People in charge do not take our safety seriously
-We pay tuition for classes taught by a predator
we DO NOT want you here, and WE WILL NOT tolerate your presence.
