BAD NEWS! We are LOSING on Trumpcare right now! Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to hold a vote on the Senate's SECRET health care bill before July 4th. If the bill is similar to the House's bill, as we fear, it will cause 23 million to lose health insurance, tens of millions to lose coverage for pre-existing conditions, loss of Medicaid coverage for millions and massive increases in insurance premiums for Americans age 50+. From Ezra Levin, executive director of Indivisible (indivisibleguide.com), which has led the charge on beating back Trumpcare. (Indivisible has also been demanding to see Trump's tax returns!): 'McConnell’s strategy of keeping the public in the dark is working. Assuming the current (low) level of constituent pressure, most DC insiders put chances at around 60-70% that the GOP passes Trumpcare. McConnell’s strategy is cynical and effective. Secret negotiations means no news. No news means less outrage from the public. Make no mistake: McConnell is VERY VERY good at his job. There is a reason he’s keeping us in the dark on Trumpcare -- IT’S WORKING. McConnell is afraid of ONE THING right now: CONSTITUENT PRESSURE on persuadable Republicans. You can use these talking points: 1) As your constituent, I DEMAND to see the Senate's Trumpcare bill that is being written behind closed doors, way before you vote on it; 2) If the Senate's Trumpcare bill doesn't offer protections for people with pre-existing conditions, or if it bumps millions of people off of health insurance, it is IMMORAL AND UNACCEPTABLE; 3) Leave Obamacare INTACT and make fixes to the program -- fixes that experts have said could make the program more affordable and better; 4) If you vote for a weak Trumpcare bill that hurts tens of millions of Americans, I will work to DEFEAT you in your next election. Tell him/her it’s time to take TOUGH actions to protect your constituents like: 1) Withholding consent to slow the Senate to a halt; 2) Filibustering by amendment the Trumpcare bill if it does not get a public hearing.
