We want a community park by Cable Bay Trail

We want a community park by Cable Bay Trail
Why this petition matters

In March of 2021, a 97-acre forest containing ecologically sensitive forest was heavily logged. This land borders our beloved off-leash dog hiking trail and many community homes. These trees were home to countless animals, and the ecosystem dampened the noise and smell from local industry to the community.
This land was an easy target because this section resides in the Regional District of Nanaimo and is zoned rural resource; making it easy to gain permits, even though the zoning noted all the sensitive ecosystems.
The Canadians Locally Improving Communities Society (theclic.ca) wants to acquire this land, and turn it into a community park for the benefit of everyone; from the community to the animals, neighbours old and new. We want to restore as many of the trees as possible and add so much more.
This land, instead of being a stump farm waiting for the next timber harvest could be community gardens, picnic spaces, a playground, create public walking trails, and horse riding trails, where logging roads already exist. This land has been trafficked by pedestrians for years. It already connects to the Cable Bay Trail and as such is already appreciated by the public.
The remainder of the land owned by this developer is in the city of Nanaimo, and a large portion that borders the neighbourhood has been recently rezoned for industrial use. Without this park and buffer, industry will creep up to our homes and our trail with only small set backs.
Let's work together and create this park for everyone.
Let's make sure the trees that grow today, can live for generations, not just until they're ready to be cut down again.
Let's make sure our community is known for its forests, and not for its factories.
