In May of 2024, Towson University student Ryan Conway pled guilty to two counts of misdemeanor sexual assault. Despite this, he is still allowed on the Towson University campus and is even allowed to play for their men’s basketball team. Many students have expressed their discomfort with sharing what is supposed to be a safe space with someone with a history of sexual assault. Towson University needs to hold its students accountable; is Ryan Conway immune to disciplinary action because he is an athlete for the school? That is the message the university is currently sending, which is a stark contrast to what they state on their website: “The safety of our students is critical to fulfilling the academic mission”. If Towson University truly cared about the safety of their students, something should be done about this predator walking freely around campus.
