Dear signers of our petition,

The campaign to bring Ahlam Tamimi, the Hamas woman who spearheaded the Sbarro atrocity and lives sickeningly free today in Jordan, continues. Here's a long-delayed update.

  1. Malki, our terribly-missed daughter who was murdered at 15 in the attack on the Jerusalem pizzeria, had brothers and sisters. Israel is now at war triggered by an exceptionally savage attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. Israel called up its military reserves that same day, and more than 300,000 answered. It's a response like none we have seen here before. One of those soldiers, a physical therapist on normal days and a young man of exceptional gentleness, was Naftali, the husband of one of Malki's younger sisters. Also the father of two of our grand-daughters, ages 3 and 18 months. Naftali went straight to where his reserves unit was assembling. Two months to the day after the Hamas invasion, Naftali's tank took a direct hit from Hamas forces in northern Gaza and he was killed. The lives of everyone in our family and among our friends are deeply affected by what for us is a tragedy. We hope and pray for an end to this fighting, one that brings an end to the destructiveness and terrorism that lies at the heart of Hamas' existence. Our prayers are also with the many abductees taken hostage and being held by Hamas in Gaza's underground fortresses as part of their barbaric waging of a war no one in Israel wanted.
  2. On January 16, 2024. we marked exactly 2,500 days since the Department of Justice unsealed federal terrorism charges against Ahlam Tamimi. Her ongoing freedom in Jordan, where she is a celebrity and icon of terror, is something the Jordanian government wants and rationalizes despite the reality that this places them in open breach of a treaty made by the Clinton administration with King Hussein, the father of today's Jordan ruler. It's a disgraceful way for a US ally to conduct itself, and even more so when we recall that this is solely about keeping a woman free who is famous for calling the pizzeria massacre "a crown on my head".
  3. As it happens, that same day earlier this week, one of the major representatives bodies in America's Jewish community made public a letter sent in its name to Secretary Antony Blinken at the State Department. It's about Tamimi, justice and the need to have Jordan do what the treaty requires it to do. The full text of the letter is here: https://conferenceofpresidents.org/press/letter-to-secretary-blinken-re-ahlam-tamimi/
  4. I hope you will read it, and very much want you to please share the letter which explains how deeply concerned the leadership of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations is "by the fact that Ahlam Aref Ahmad Al-Tamimi, an FBI Most Wanted Terrorist responsible for the heinous 2001 bombing of the Sbarro pizzeria in Jerusalem, continues to find refuge in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan." It goes on to confirm "our unwavering commitment to combatting terrorism and ensuring justice for victims and their families. We trust that the United States will continue to demonstrate its leadership and moral integrity by pursuing this crucial matter."

This is a short note. If it went on longer, I would say how immensely frustrating and challenging it has been to repeatedly walk into closed doors and to find our messages rebuffed year after year by lawmakers, senior officials and many parts of America's mainstream media. But this isn't the time. And thankfully, something positive has happened.
