As most of you that have been following this know, the Middleburgh Town Board and Planning Board is in the process of drafting a final action for the local law to prohibit any “utility-scale solar energy systems and wind measuring towers and wind energy facilities” in all zoning districts. This pending local law seems to lack “forward-thinking” with the upcoming Federal and State mandates looming over us with the newest being the NYS Climate Act.
In the very near future, all newly constructed houses are required to be ALL ELECTRIC. Additionally, the electric vehicles need electricity to run – where will all of this electricity come from? Solar requires approximately 30 acres of land to produce what one of the wind turbines can produce on 2 acres or less. The land that solar uses can never be reclaimed or farmed for food whereas with turbines, the land is useable right up to the base of the tower. Even if the Town of Middleburgh actually approves these two turbines, it will take two years at a minimum from the permitting time, the studies and construction needed to put them into service on the grid.
So, tell us, did the County Board of Supervisors and the Middleburgh Town Board SHOOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT?
