The Issue

Pass the PRESENT Bill now! We support innovative and inclusive pathways to end poverty!

The Poverty Reduction Through Social Entrepreneurship (PRESENT) Bill seeks recognition of social enterprises as transformational partners of the poor and provides for support programs, incentives, and a governing body towards an enabling environment for them to thrive and develop. The PRESENT Bill also provides for a national program in strategic economic sub-sectors that have the potential for growth and where the poor and marginalized are concentrated and could be major players.

Social enterprises: the 'missing ingredient' for a sustainable economy that works for all

At the core of the PRESENT bill is organizing the economy around strategic economic sub-sectors, from coffee and coco coir to banana and bamboo, and more, where the poor are concentrated and could be major players. Social enterprises in these sub-sectors have an untapped power to lift millions of Filipinos out of poverty. That’s because, unlike regular businesses, social enterprises reinvest profits back into improving the lives of marginalized sectors. They also engage and empower these sectors to become partners in community, sectoral, and societal transformation.

What’s more? Social enterprises strive to work within ecological boundaries even as they pursue development. Social enterprises pursue triple bottom lines: people, planet, and profit.

Considering COVID-19, social enterprises continue to reimagine how to sustain serving marginalized groups while the sector itself recovers. As we bounce back from this crisis, social enterprises advance building back fairer toward a more equitable economy. Social entrepreneurship is a vital ingredient for inclusive recovery and sustainable development.

Join us in urging our legislators to pass the PRESENT bill to build an economy that works for all.
