WE STAND WITH GENERAL MKHWANAZI
The Issue
To: The President of the Republic of South Africa
We, the undersigned citizens of South Africa, concerned members of civil society, and advocates for justice, hereby submit this petition to express our unwavering support for Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and to demand urgent and decisive action in response to the serious allegations raised during his public briefing on 6 July 2025.
Background:
General Mkhwanazi has made credible and deeply concerning claims of:
- Political interference in SAPS operations
- The unlawful disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team
- The removal and suppression of 121 critical investigation dockets
- Alleged ties between high-ranking police officials, political figures, and criminal syndicates
- The obstruction of justice and deliberate sabotage of law enforcement processes.
Our Demands:
- Full protection for General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, including legal and physical safeguards as a whistle-blower acting in the public interest.
- Immediate suspension of all implicated individuals pending investigation, including Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.
- The reinstatement and urgent review of the 121 criminal case dockets removed from the Political Killings Task Team.
- The establishment of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, independent and transparent, to investigate all allegations of political interference, corruption, and criminal syndicate infiltration within SAPS and related state institutions.
- The implementation of structural reforms to protect SAPS officers who report wrongdoing, and to ensure operational independence from political influence.
In conclusion:
The safety, integrity, and future of South Africa’s democracy depend on the rule of law and the courage of principled individuals within our institutions. We call upon the Presidency and Parliament to act without delay. Let this be a turning point for justice in our nation.
Yours Faithfully
