Despite not having a voice, animals depend heavily on humans. That involves ensuring their safety, and as people, we have long led the charge against violence against animals. Voice has the ability to stimulate the senses and motivate others to take action. Public servants and elected officials make important decisions every day that have an impact on the lives of all animals. People who care about animals need to speak up and share their opinions with policy makers.

WHAT IS ANIMAL CRUELTY?

Animal cruelty can often be difficult to recognize but it has proven to be a pervasive problem. Animal abuse and neglect can occur in any species or society. One of the first stages in assisting with its abolition is helping people understand what constitutes animal cruelty and what it does not. Whether being used in the pet industry, for cosmetics, for entertainment, or for food, animals shouldn't have to continue suffering. Animal abuse, animal neglect, or cruelty to animals are all terms for the criminal act of causing physical harm, suffering, or death to an animal, typically one that is tame beyond what is necessary for standard correction. It can also involve terrible crimes of neglect, such as depriving an animal of food and water, which resulted in the animal suffering, dying, or being in grave danger of dying. Even though some behaviors, like animal fighting, are widely acknowledged as cruel, not all people and nations have the same definition of what constitutes animal cruelty.

Children who grow up in homes where animal abuse is condoned develop the impression that it is the usual and are more likely to carry on the tradition. Cities are overrun by stray animals as a result of abandonment, which has a severe impact on the welfare of locals.

Here in our country, we can observe many forms of animal cruelty which includes torturing animals for what they so called "entertainment", lack of shelter and enough food, using these animals as subjects to gamble. The court said Jonathan and Evangeline Galguerra, who used a kitchen knife and scissors without anesthesia to conduct the operation, violated Section 6 of the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) said in a Facebook post. Aside from performing the irregular procedure, the couple also recorded their act on video and shared it on social media, which was later deleted. The controversial incident was reported on June 25, 2019.

WHY SHOULD ANIMAL CRUELTY BE STOPPED?

Animals have a right to a pain-free existence, and it is our duty to intervene if those rights aren't being respected. There are many ways to help but simply being a responsible person is one of the numerous things one may do to contribute.
