Please sign our petition to keep the Yellow Jacket Stadium and track—an East Austin community resource since 1971—open to alumni and neighbors.

Austin ISD Athletics plans to restrict community access to the Yellow Jacket Stadium and track, a neighborhood walking path for 50 years.

AISD wants to limit access for longtime community members and OLCA alumni without clearly
explaining why.

While the proposed gate signs avoid explicit exclusionary language, they send that message by prioritizing outside walking clubs and groups over the Old L. C. Anderson community.

If you support keeping the stadium and track open to former L. C. Anderson alumni and the community, please sign our petition.

Yellow Jacket Stadium

• 1953: Anderson High School and its stadium opened for Austin’s Black students.
  
  
• 1982: AISD paved over the football field and track for parking.
  
  
• 1993: Former Anderson player and NFL athlete Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson led efforts to restore the stadium, raising funds and holding a hunger strike to remove the concrete and bring back the grass field and track.
  
  
• 2020: The Austin ISD Board approved Yellow Jacket Stadium as the fourth Central Athletic Facility, joining Burger, Nelson, and House Park.
  
  
• 2022: Yellow Jacket Stadium was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the last remaining Texas high school stadium built exclusively for African Americans.
  
  
• 2022: Austin ISD bond funds were awarded for upgrades needed for UIL play.
  
  
• 2025: The Austin ISD Executive Director of Athletics shifted management of Yellow Jacket Stadium from AISD Athletics to Eastside ECHS, despite policies governing Central Facilities.
  
  
• 2026: New signage limiting access was proposed.
