WE PAY TO SAVE TIME – NOT TO SIT IN TRAFFIC
Every morning, hundreds of thousands of Australians hand over their hard-earned money to use Sydney’s toll roads.
We don’t pay because we enjoy spending more.
We pay because we’re promised something in return: a faster, more reliable journey.
But day after day, that promise is being broken.
Instead of moving, we’re crawling.
Instead of saving time, we’re watching the clock while sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
And we’re still charged the full toll.
How is that fair?
If you pay for express postage and it arrives weeks late, you expect compensation.
If you pay for premium internet and it constantly drops out, you expect a refund.
So why is it different when we pay premium prices to use toll roads that are gridlocked?
This isn’t just frustrating, it affects every part of our lives.
Parents are missing precious time with their children.
Workers are spending longer away from home.
Small businesses and tradies are losing income while sitting in traffic.
Essential workers are delayed getting to the people who need them.
Meanwhile, motorists continue paying some of the highest toll costs in Australia, even when the service they’re paying for simply isn’t being delivered.
Enough is enough.
We’re not asking for free toll roads.
We’re asking for fairness.
If a toll road fails to provide a reasonable travel-time benefit because of severe congestion, motorists should not be charged the full toll.
We call on the NSW Government and toll road operators to introduce a Fair Toll Guarantee, including:
- Automatic toll refunds or discounts when congestion exceeds agreed performance levels.
- Transparent travel-time and congestion reporting so motorists know what they’re paying for.
- Independent oversight to ensure toll operators are accountable for the service they provide.
- A commitment that motorists only pay full tolls when toll roads deliver the faster journey they were built to provide.
Tolls are not a donation.
They are payment for a service.
When that service isn’t delivered, Australians deserve fairness, transparency and accountability.
If you’ve ever paid to sit in traffic…
If you’ve ever questioned why you’re paying premium prices for a standstill…
If you believe motorists deserve better…

Together, we can send a clear message:
If we’re not moving, neither should the full toll.
