Townline Rail Terminal, LLC, owned by CarlsonCorp, Inc. is proposing to build a new train rail spur, five tracks wide, for commercial use including disposal of incinerated ash and construction debris. 

Diesel trains will be running on these tracks. Incinerated ash will be trucked to rail terminal from Covanta Incinerator. 

Our concern with this project is that this is to be built bordering a residential area of a neighborhood where children live and play. 

Concerns that we have with Townline Rail Terminal include:

1. The health risk associated with diesel exhaust polluting our air.
2. The health risk associated with incinerated ash that will be loaded on the diesel trains (potentially unknown materials are burned in the ash).
3. The rail spurs will be located directly behind residential homes with children.
4. Diesel trains to operate between 10 pm and 5 am, when children are supposed to be sleeping.
5. The impact on the quality of life of the surrounding residential neighbors including the noise nuisance it will present in the evening as well as additional pollutants. 
6. The potential for this project to impact the aquifer that supplies Long Island's water.
7. The surrounding communities are already overburdened with sources of pollution from the immediate area. 
8. The substantial negative impact on home values.
9. The lack of notice provided to the public regarding this project. 

Smithtown News indicated that there was no opposition to this project, however, that is because the public was never formally informed. 

This project poses an environmental and health risk to our community. Please stand with us as we oppose Townline Rail Terminal.
