We Oppose the Duke Energy Progress Vegetation Management Program and Use of Chemicals in Rural NC
There are more environmentally sound and tourism friendly ways to manage vegetation under the power lines. Prior to the acquistion by Duke Energy, Progress Energy never used herbicides in our county. Why the change now? Even though it's legal, please reconsider changing back to trimming and mowing.

We would respectfully request Duke Energy stop using herbicides for vegetation management in rural North Carolina and the NC Utilities Commission reject their proposed "vegetation management proposal". There are more environmentally and tourism friendly ways to manage vegetation under power lines. Progress Energy never sprayed in our backyards, why does Duke Energy Progress have to start this practice in rural NC now you've taken ownership of PE? We would also invite a Duke Energy Board member and elected officials to please come see the effects of spraying on our county and we hope you come the same conclusion and go back to mowing and trimming versus using chemicals. It looks like a war zone, is not very tourist friendly and must be a fire hazard.
