Burlington does not HAVE to be a merely temporary destination for young professionals commuting to Greensboro, Winston, Durham, and Raleigh - BUT it will be unless we stand against these apartments.  

Burlington CAN be a place for permanent homeowners to live and grow their families.  If we allow our elected officials to accept out-of-town developers stripping and razing our land to build apartments for temporary residents, we are allowing and endorsing Burlington being nothing more than a pitstop on I85 instead of the thriving city that it should be.

On April 25, Burlington Zoning and Planning Committee/Board members will meet to vote on a proposal to place 252 apartments and a parking lot for 370 vehicles on the 17 acre lot next to the Highland Elementary School and joining the sprawling Buckhill Village, and Milltown Apartments marking the entrance to Mackintosh.

Developers are throwing together apartments as fast as they can along the I85/I40 corridor - WE OPPOSE THEM RUINING BURLINGTON AND WE OPPOSE THIS PLANNED DEVELOPMENT ON BONNAR BRIDGE PARKWAY.  Mackintosh home values will suffer and commutes will lengthen for ALL OF BURLINGTON as developers will be emboldened to build more apartments.

We are concerned mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, grandparents, and caring citizens who care deeply about the City of Burlington and what we will leave behind for our children and grandchildren. Burlington has immense potential to continue to grow into an incredible haven for its citizens to thrive generation after generation. However, poor planning and short-sighted development decisions will leave behind a disaster for our children, and turn Mackintosh into a homeowner's nightmare. We are concerned that out-of-town developers will sacrifice the future of Mackintosh to build apartments for transient/temporary residents looking for commuter-friendly temporary abodes. We are concerned that out-of-town developers are planning a logistical and traffic logjam by packing apartments into the entrance to Mackintosh (with more planned development on the horizon). We are concerned that 10 years from now, we will regret the costs that we have allowed out-of-town developers to impose on our city while they enjoy the profits in their mansions in Wilmington. We will fight to keep Mackintosh a nice place for families to grow and thrive. We care about the future of Mackintosh, Burlington, and most importantly, our children.
