We object to the proposed development within the open Green Space in Bishopston Ward, SA3.
The Issue
This is a petition to demonstrate to Bishopston Community Council that the proposal by Gower Land Trust to build houses in an active agricultural field, many with four bedrooms, has objectors within the wards of:
Bishopston, Mumbles, Fairwood, Mayals, Pennard and West Cross.
At this stage it is simply to convince BCC that they should not be supporting this proposed development. (BCC no longer supports this proposal in this location).
The Local Development Plan (LDP) states:
The development is proposed to be constructed on an area of land within the green wedge as envisaged and described in paragraph 2.9.11 of the Local Development Plan 2010-2025.
Your consideration should be given to the detail in the statement:
a. A prime example of a valuable green space
b. Afforded protection under this policy.
c. Is in the centre of the urban settlement of Bishopston.
d. Is agricultural and horticultural land (actively farmed by multiple generations of the same Bishopston residents)
e. Is of amenity value.
f. Plays an important role in preserving the individual identities of separate neighbourhoods within Bishopston.
g. It is of value in terms of ecosystem service provision
h. Should not be compromised with development.

If GLT succeed in turning this open Green Space into a housing development the door is open, not only for the remaining Green Spaces within Bishopston & Murton communities but ANY Green Space could use a similar formula for housing!
That's the Green Belts, fields, playing fields, all at risk to housing!
