Surfside Housing Association for Tenants (SHAFT) has been struggling with Alma Realty for many years since the bought the buildings from the City as part of a bankruptcy deal in late 1990's with the previous owners. They broke the 32BJ union which set the tone of our they would operate with these buildings for all the years since It is a daily struggle to keep Alma accountable for the Health and Safety services and the maintenance of the quality of life living at Surfside in Rockaway Beach, Queens NY.

So now the struggle has jumped to another level in stopping the approval of development that will be right on top of the existing buildings and the current 2000+ residents that call Surfside their home.
