Some version of an extended Sheppard line has been “in the works” since the subway was first envisioned. That was in 1986. Today, this vital piece of transit infrastructure is right back where it started over 30 years ago: nothing more than a line on a map.

With the Provincial election looming, it’s high time that every party committed to funding and building an extended Sheppard subway. Too many generations of Torontonians have been promised this line and seen nothing come of it. 

In our current Provincial government’s transit plan, there is a line along Sheppard but no details on how and when it will be built. We need concrete commitments if we’re going to fight gridlock, build back our weakened transit system, and create communities that are liveable for everyone in our city.

When candidates come knocking on your door next month, ask them what they’re going to do to see this line built. Make it clear to them that residents of North York, Scarborough, and all of Toronto can’t afford to wait another 30 years for this.

We need more than a line on a map. We need the Sheppard subway built this decade.
