PETITION TO SUPPORT DREDGING OF BASTROP BAYOU IN PUBLIC WATERS

Subject: Urgent Request for Dredging and Maintenance of Bastrop Bayou

We, the undersigned residents, stakeholders, and visitors of Brazoria County, respectfully request that the Port of Freeport Authority immediately take action to dredge and maintain Bastrop Bayou.

According to public records, the Port of Freeport Authority is responsible for maintaining and dredging these channels. However, records indicate that these responsibilities have been neglected for over 30 years, resulting in:

• Reduced navigability for recreational and commercial vessels.

• Increased risk of accidents, damage to boats, environmental erosion, and other environmental hazards.

• Negative economic impacts on local businesses, tourism, and the community such as flooded homes and properties.

• Sediment accumulation that disrupts water flow and local habitats.

We believe that timely dredging and maintenance is critical to:

• Restore safe access for all waterway users.

• Support local businesses and the Brazoria County economy.

• Reduce flooding and improve Drainage in both Brazosport & Angleton Drainage Districts by increasing flow and capacity.

• Protect the environment and preserve our public waterways.

• Improve tidal water recession and reduce the likelihood of nearby properties and homes flooding.

• Ensure the Port fulfills its legal and administrative obligations.

We, the undersigned, urge the Port of Freeport Authority to take immediate action to dredge Bastrop Bayou and commit to regular maintenance moving forward.
