We Need Road Pillars on Main Street

The Issue

The recent accident on main Street in Newark made me think about how this could have been prevented. April 29th, 2025 around 4:30 pm a Uhaul going around 100mph fleeing police crashed into pedestrians, putting multiple in the hospital in currently unknown condition.

There are almost ZERO road pillars, speed bumps, or barriers to prevent pedestrian death of any kind along the sidewalks, even in the busiest of areas. Main Street is almost always bustling with activity from morning through night, it is UNACCEPTABLE that there weren't barriers for potential crashes, especially after the death of Noelia Gomez the first day of classes this year from a motorcyclist crash. Road Pillars are seen in many other universities and cities, why not Newark?

Most of us probably haven't really thought of this possibly until the two tragic incidents this year, but it's obvious our university has been under prepared, or naive to the dangers that traffic can pose to pedestrians.

We need to prevent deaths of pedestrians in Newark by installing life saving road Pillars along our busy main Street. God knows we pay enough in tuition for at least that.
