We need a proper A&E back in Canterbury!

The Issue

Over the last months we have all seen that EKHUFT has been in the news about multiple failings in Maternity, moving stroke services to Ashford, wanting to close the Urgent Treatment Centre at K&C as well at 8pm as well as constantly declaring critical incidents at WHH, twice in a week.  They can’t cope now let alone with even more patients when winter pressures haven’t started yet, we are just in October!  The thought of going to A&E’s at Ashford or Margate actually terrifies a lot of people, because of corridor care and being left unattended for hours/days.

We are reading all the comments in Kentonline stories, which are every other day at the moment and you are all saying we need to fight this and get an A&E back in Canterbury, so we have to act now.  We need to lobby EKHUFT & the ICB and bombard them with letters protesting against this.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Our city is a major one, with very frequent accidents on the A2, M2 and A299.  QEQM & WHH are unable to cope now, with the thousands of new homes being built in and around us in Canterbury this situation is madness.  We need you, your families and friends to sign our petition.

My parents live 5 mins from K&C and  it’s a long journey to Ashford or Margate A&E’s and not all people can drive.  They are putting people’s lives at risk.  Patients are being left in corridors for days on chairs, being forgotten about, needing the toilet and not being able to get to one: it’s humiliating, totally unacceptable and inhumane.

With Christ Church and Kent Uni less than 5 mins from K&C as well as the thousands of new builds, this is an absolutely ridiculous situation .  Canterbury is a Cathedral City with hundreds of thousands of visitors and needs a more modern hospital.  It’s time EKHUFT and Kent & Medway ICB invests heavily into Canterbury Hospital and stop spending it on unnecessary things, like a stroke unit at Ashford, when we have a perfectly good one here in Canterbury.  A Same Day Emergency Care ward with 16 beds is not the answer, it’s a fingernail sized plaster covering a whole body.

JUST LISTEN TO US FOR ONCE!
