WE NEED A MENTAL HEALTH CLASS IN OUR SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The Issue
Our future depends on our youth. If we want to see real change, mental health needs to become a #1 priority with our Government and implemented into our school curriculum. Every single issue we see on the news daily; racism, discrimination, bullying, violence, abuse, depression, and even suicide are real and often devastating symptoms of mental health neglect. According to the American Psychological Association, one in five children and adolescents in the U.S. experience significant mental health challenges each year, yet many do not receive the support they need in their formative years. This lack of early intervention can lead to more severe issues later in life. Many perpetrators of violence, including mass shootings, were once children whose cries for help went unheard. Our Government must make mental health a top priority by integrating comprehensive mental health classes into the educational curriculum. Not only will this empower students with knowledge and coping strategies, but it will also create opportunities for mental health professionals to be involved in shaping young minds. Such a curriculum could potentially lighten the load on first responders by addressing issues before they escalate. By working together, we can protect our children, ensuring they “grow up to be kind” in environments that are as mentally safe as they are physically safe. Instead of offering condolences after the next tragedy, let’s take proactive steps now to prevent it. Join me in urging our Government and educational institutions to incorporate mental health classes into our school curriculum. Sign this petition and make a transformative impact on the lives of children and our future as a whole.
