The proposed Drug Drive Laws contravene the Bill of Rights Act 1990

The proposed Drug Drive Laws contravene the Bill of Rights Act 1990
The issue
- Although Road Safety is paramount, the rules must be fair for all road users and based on evidence. This evidence should come from real testing and not from past accidents and fatalities, where so many other factors determine cause.
- The current Drug Driving legislation, while it does include Pharmaceutical drugs, has as its main goal cannabis consumers by setting limits so low, that few will escape.
- With a growing Medicinal Cannabis industry this legislation will unfairly impact those whose medicinal preparations contain THC. Sativex is one example.
- There are 700,000 plus cannabis consumers who will be impacted by this legislation with no opportunity to prove that they are not impaired. This can not be challenged in court.
- We call on the Government to take road safety seriously enough to order robust scientific analysis of drugs and Kiwi drivers, just as they were forced to do with alcohol, by that industry, so that we get this right the first time.
- Make no mistake this would be a 'cash cow' only, for the Government with no noticeable effect on Road Safety and with all Kiwi Drivers becoming victims.
