1. We're SO CLOSE to 500 signers; please RE-POST OR SHARE on FACEBOOK to help get just 50 more signatures! 2. The first POSITIVE PICKETING is scheduled tomorrow (Thursday) at 5 pm to let the broader community know to BOYCOTT THIS 76 until it closes or changes. We also need HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS to spread the word at lunch. 3. Here's the first boilerplate response from PHILLIPS 66, as well as my reply back to them. BULK REPLY FROM PHILLIPS 66: Thank you for contacting Phillips 66 Company and sharing your concerns. Phillips 66 does not own or operate this station, but we do take this matter seriously. The activities in question do not match the expectation the community should have of the 76 brand and are inconsistent with the values of our company and the 7,000+ independently operated sites across the country. We are working with the owner of the station to address the issue and take the appropriate steps to regain the trust of the local community. Please know we value your business and hope you will continue to provide us with future opportunities to serve you. Sincerely, Phillips 66 Company Consumer Services MY RESPONSE: "Blayne, Thank you for the bulk response to my several submissions and phone calls. Although not definitive or resolved, it is at least positive to get a response and to see Phillips 66 is working to protect its brand. As the originator of the petition, I did have a couple of follow-ups: 1. Was the same response sent to all 300+ petition signers automatically, or would you like me to send it to them through a petition update, as well as posting on several large Facebook sites? 2. What is the timeline on which we should expect to hear follow-up from from you on your "working with the owner of the station to address the issue and take the appropriate steps to regain the trust of the local community?" 3. Does your franchise agreement give you any authority to protect your brand (as well as our neighborhoods) from criminal or negligent owners/operators and, if so, what steps are you taking independently to solve this immediate problem for our community? 4. If your franchise agreement does not give you any such authority, why not, and how can we ever trust the 76/Phillips 66 brand again? 5. New fencing was put up at the rear of the station which likely facilitated the alleged illegal onsite activity by making it easier to hide it. Was that fencing approved by 76, Phillips 66 or the City of Santa Cruz, and can it be removed, restoring visibility and access to the site, and eliminating visual blight for the adjacent neighbors? Thank you, in advance, for your prompt attention and response. Extensive picketing with media coverage is already scheduled for later this week. It possibly could be cancelled if we know you are aggressively managing towards a productive resolution. Greg Larson"
