Dear Friends, I'm thrilled to share with you a milestone update on our journey together. Today marks the formal declaration of victory for our petition, and we are concluding our signature campaign. When the NAR Accountability Project launched the petition on September 2nd, skepticism surrounded us. We were told it was an overly ambitious endeavor, that we would achieve little, and that we were in over our heads. To everyone's surprise, they were wrong. In the absence of public support from any real estate board or brokerage, the NAR Accountability Project stood steadfast in calling for four specific changes within the National Association of Realtors (NAR). It turns out, we didn't need nationwide institutional support; we had something better—we had you. Our grassroots coalition has evolved into a formidable force. With agents across all 50 states, thousands of individuals united to demand change within our industry, and change has indeed come. Over the last four months, several members of NAR's leadership team have announced early retirements or resignations. NAR has altered its HR reporting practices and engaged an independent law firm to investigate issues related to sexual harassment. While the release of women from NDAs has not yet happened, we sincerely hope that this day will soon arrive. Many have inquired about the future of the NAR Accountability Project and our ongoing efforts to transform the real estate industry. Today, we provided a glimpse of what may unfold in The New York Times. I strongly encourage you to read this article, which is included in this update. You can read even if you don’t have a NYT subscription. I can confirm that we are now exploring, though not yet committed to, launching a new national trade association to represent agents in a dynamic and powerful way. As this remains exploratory, with all ideas on the table, we would love to hear from you. If you have suggestions on how a new trade association could function, ideas on how it could benefit our industry and agents, or thoughts on what is needed now to restore trust with the consumer, we are all ears. Please email us at naraprojectinfo@gmail.com - all comments are welcome. Thank you once again for being on this transformative journey with us. 2024 promises to be an exceptionally exciting year ahead. Warm regards, NAR Accountability Project
