A criminal intrudes into a family's home, in the middle of the night and the owner of the home is forced to defend his family. In the process of making a citizen's arrest until the police arrive, the criminal sustains a broken neck and later dies in hospital.

But something went wrong in this story. The hero, the owner of the home and father, was charged with murder today for protecting his family, himself and his RIGHT to safety in his own home.

As a country we have to stand up and say NO WAY. Not in my name. 

What message are we sending otherwise? Not only are law-abiding citizens put under even more pressure in the event that they are the victim of a home invasion, because they are made fearful to even defend themselves, but criminals are empowered to risk breaking laws, and the boundaries maintained in a civil society, knowing they are protected by laws that should be protecting the innocent.

Common decency is at risk here people, this great country is going to end up a criminal's paradise at this rate and nobody will be safe anymore, not even at home.

Help us get legislation changed, this hero father freed and ensure that Australia, at the very least, doesn't go down an insane road toward total disrespect of one another's most private sanctuaries - OUR HOMES.

We are now also raising money for Benjamin Batterham's family who have not only experienced a break and enter but are missing their father and husband, who stood up to protect them from an intruder in the middle of the night and ended up in custody, charged with murder.

They must be going through hell right now while he fights for his freedom in court and we're hoping to help ease their stress. Anything you can spare for an ordinary family going through an extraordinary nightmare, will go a long way toward showing them that Australia is behind them, the real victims and that we care about doing what is right.
