The Movement for Social Justice Calls on All Internet Service Providers to Suspend Billing and Disconnecting Customers Until End Of Lockdown-

As a result of the outbreak of COVID-19, the job security of workers around the country have been affected. Without a source of income they are in obvious difficulties making ends meet. However despite this inconvenience, internet service providers are still billing their customers for their services and have even disconnected access for those who could not make their payments on time. These companies are Digicel, Green Dot, Flow and Amplia.

At a time when the world is fighting against a deadly pandemic, information about this virus and how our government is dealing with it is crucial. It is absurd to deny people access to such information for any reason, as information is key in controlling COVID-19. This is also a major inconvenience to people in T&T who have relatives and friends living in countries that have been hit particularly hard and are anxious to know that their loved ones are in good health. It is inhumane and cruel to deny customers a chance to maintain contact with people they care about during a time like this.

Therefore, we are calling on the country's internet service providers to suspend the billing of their customers until the end of the lockdown period on April 30th. In addition to this we are also calling on both companies to reconnect ALL customers who were disconnected at any time after the beginning of the lockdown that took effect on Sunday 29th of March.

We must prioritise the needs of our people above the desire for profit.
