We demand an investigation into excessive force used at Utah County data center meeting
The Issue
On the evening of Tuesday, October 20, the Utah County Planning Commission held a meeting about a zoning ordinance that would impact data center development in the area. A video widely circulated online and in the media shows that several people were removed from the meeting after the yes vote on the zoning ordinance occurred BEFORE allowing time for public comment. Shortly after the people were removed from the meeting, multiple videos taken appear to show one of the three, an activist named Aspen Azalea, being thrown to the ground by a Utah County Sheriff's Office deputy.
The Utah County Sheriff's Office issued a statement about the incident that characterizes what happened in a VERY different way from the descriptions of eyewitnesses and videos taken at the meeting.
On October 21, 2026, a group of organizations and individuals sent a letter to the Utah County Sheriff's Office demanding a full and independent investigation into the incident and the deputy who used so much force in his interaction with Aspen.
We know many, many more individuals wished to add their names to the letter. This is your chance.
If you were at the meeting or have seen the videos of what happened there, and the Sheriff's Department statement didn't satisfy your concerns, sign this petition!
